Custom pressure-treated decks designed and built for Raleigh homeowners. Solid, affordable outdoor living space that holds up in North Carolina’s heat, humidity, and summer storms. Our licensed crew builds single-level decks, multi-level decks, covered decks, and pool surrounds — all with a written warranty and honest pricing from day one.
Pressure-treated lumber is the most popular deck material in Raleigh — and for good reason. It’s strong, affordable, and built to handle North Carolina’s humidity, heat, and summer rain. Modern pressure-treated pine is treated with preservatives that resist rot, insects, and moisture — the three things that destroy untreated wood in our climate. You get a solid, beautiful outdoor living space at a fraction of the cost of composite decking, and with proper sealing every few years, a well-built PT deck lasts 20–30 years. For homeowners who want real outdoor living space without the premium price tag, pressure-treated is the smart choice.
#1 grade lumber has tighter grain and fewer knots than #2, giving you a cleaner finished deck with less warping as the wood dries. This is the grade we recommend for decking boards, railings, and any surface you'll see and touch every day. Treated to UC4A or UC4B standard for ground-contact applications.
#2 grade is strong and structurally sound — it's the right choice for framing, joists, beams, and posts where appearance matters less than strength. Using #2 for structural members and #1 for the deck surface is the most cost-effective combination for a high-quality finished deck.
Not sure which grade combination fits your budget? We’ll walk you through both options at your free estimate — and show you exactly where each grade makes sense in your build.

Two or more deck levels connected by stairs — great for homes with a grade change in the yard or homeowners who want to define separate outdoor zones for dining, lounging, and entertaining. Custom-designed for your specific home and lot.

A roof structure over your deck gives you shade, rain protection, and an outdoor space you can actually use in Raleigh's summer heat. We build pergolas, shade structures, and full covered porches as part of a complete deck build.

A well-built pressure-treated deck in Raleigh typically lasts 20–30 years with basic maintenance — sealing or staining every 2–3 years and keeping the surface clean. The framing and posts, which use higher-grade treated lumber, often last even longer. North Carolina’s humidity is tough on untreated wood, but modern pressure-treated pine is specifically designed to handle our climate.
Yes — most decks in Wake County require a building permit. Any deck over 200 square feet or more than 30 inches above grade needs a permit and two inspections (footing and final). Decks attached to the house require a permit regardless of size. We pull the permit, submit the drawings, and schedule both inspections as part of every deck build — no extra charge.
New pressure-treated lumber should be allowed to dry for 6–12 months before its first sealing. After that, plan to seal or stain every 2–3 years in Raleigh’s climate. You’ll know it’s time when water no longer beads on the surface. A good UV-resistant deck stain protects the wood from sun damage and moisture and significantly extends the life of the deck.
#1 grade lumber has tighter grain, fewer and smaller knots, and less warping as it dries — making it the better choice for decking boards, railings, and visible surfaces. #2 grade is structurally sound but has more knots and can warp more as it dries — it’s ideal for framing, joists, and beams where strength matters more than appearance. We use the right grade in the right place on every build.
Most standard single-level PT deck builds in Raleigh are completed in 3–5 days once permits are approved. Multi-level decks, covered decks, and pool surrounds typically take 5–8 days depending on complexity. Permit approval usually takes 1–2 weeks in Wake County — we factor that into your project schedule and give you realistic start and finish dates in your written quote.
Yes — pressure-treated lumber takes stain and paint well once it has dried for 6–12 months after installation. Oil-based semi-transparent stains are the most popular choice in Raleigh because they penetrate the wood rather than sitting on the surface, allowing moisture to escape and preventing peeling. We recommend waiting until after the first winter before applying the first coat of stain.
Pressure-treated is the budget-smart choice — typically 40–60% less expensive than composite per square foot installed. It requires more maintenance (sealing every 2–3 years) but can last just as long when properly maintained. Composite decking is virtually maintenance-free but costs significantly more upfront. If you want the lowest upfront cost and don’t mind occasional sealing, PT is the right call. We build both — and we’ll give you an honest comparison at your estimate.
